Hey there! Some quick pieces of news because Iโve decided to take a couple of Architect Registration Exams in the next several days to hopefully avoid all of the wacky changes theyโre making to the exams. (Could they make the exams more inaccessible??)
๐BUT FIRST ๐
I had so much fun making this image in Canva. I hope you enjoy it too :) Tag yourself, Iโm the bunny looking at the leaf wondering if itโs edible.
Without further ado, some queer architecture updates:
The first (monthly?) Queer Agenda call happened on September 21st! Thank you to those who made it and shared their stories. Nothing is normal right now but it was great to see your beautiful faces via Zoom, share a little bit about ourselves, and discuss what queer space means to us. Just to be clear: this is not meant to be Queer AIA unless we want it to be! Currently, the mission of the call is to open up a space for shared experiences with queer folks in architecture and designโlike networking, but more relationship building and fucking around on Zoom.
Please leave a comment on this post about your availability for this monthโs Queer Agenda call. Shall we make it Halloween themed ??? And discuss how your LGBTQIA-ness informs your practice/work/life? And freak out about the upcoming election?! ๐Remember that last-minute event notification I blasted out at the end of August? The recording of the webinar is now online!!!! The first 30 minutes are MUST WATCH because it features cocktail-making and a performance from drag queen Cholula Lemon. This is not your regular pandemic programming!!! Thank you, again, to Beau and Rodolfo and AIA Austin for hosting such a wonderful group of LGBTQIA+ folks โจ
I make an appearance on the Practice Disrupted Podcast, Episode 16: Voices from the Future of the Profession, alongside longtime heroes/crushes/fellow queers: Ryan Gann, Designer at Ross Barney Architects; Lora Teagarden, Architect at RATIO; Yiselle Santos Rivera, Firmwide Director of Justice, Equity, Diversity, & Inclusion at HKS; and Amy Rosen, Sociospatial Designer at PLASTARC. The conversations about queerness in architecture are just getting started and theyโre happening from alllll different angles and viewpoints, so I welcome your answers to any of the questions that Ryan posed ๐
Happy October yโall. Stay safe, stay warm. May you feel cozy and supported as the weather gets spookier and spookier ๐ฎ๐โก๏ธ๐๐ฆ๐ซ๐ค
If you have any โจqueer architecture newsโจ youโd like to include in this newsletter, DM me on Twitter or send me an email! Iโve been in my own lil bubble of queer webinars and podcasts but would love to learn about events, happenings, and/or projects youโre working on.
