A warm welcome toย nEw SuBsCrIbErS!! If youโre new here, donโt worry, you canย catch up on past newsletters here. More importantly,ย introduce yourself in the comments on the first post! A warm welcome to new-ish and longtime subscribers as wellโall of you are MVPs in your own ways.
A huge thank you to everyone whoโs completed and shared Queeries! Itโs received 64 responses so far, which is awesome! Reading about your experiences is simultaneously comforting, illuminating, and surprising, and I appreciate you for being vulnerable and real. Iโve started posting some of the results on Instagram @queeries.xyz to reach a wider audience (and the likes, who am I kidding) so catch updates there too.
In the works on the website:
A directory of organizations for/by queers in architecture / design. There arenโt many, but they exist! A bunch of them have hosted the events that are typically listed at the end of the newsletter.
A way to view the results as they come in. This is a much more long-term project. Requires actual
coding,
probably ๐คโand totally worth doing in the long run so that the data is accessible to folks who need it.
Annnnnnd ::drumroll:: last but not least :
Thereโs a MAY MEETUP in the works! Itโll be sometime between May 3rd and May 15th, on Zoom, of course. Weโll be meeting each other (again!) and starting the conversation on the resultsโmore info to come. But for now: Please use this when2meet to note when you are available for a lil 60-minute call. Video optional but would love to see your beautiful faces!!! ๐
What parts of architecture/design need queering?
This was a question from Queeries 1. Below are just three of the responses, posted to Instagram on @queeries.xyz.
What do you think? Donโt have time for the full survey? Sound off in the comments!
And without further ado, some queer events & news this week (and beyond) ::::

๐ย Reimagining Blackness and Architecture
Museum of Modern Art, ongoing, free
Reimagining Blackness and Architecture explores the relationship between architecture and Blackness as an identity and a lived experience. Youโll hear directly from Black artists, architects, scholars, and writers who reimagine their surroundings and highlight the ways Black makers have changed the world. Youโll see how architects are working to transform American cities into more equitable places using everything from textiles, hip hop, and fiction to spices and spaceships. And youโll hear from an international range of artists, who create spaces for their communities and make visible the stories of Black life in their work.
Thank you for reading.
Until next time ๐,
